Implementing the EU’s Pact for the Mediterranean Levant with Local Actors

As Director of the Issam Hachwi Bakery School, Dima Hachwi had the opportunity to participate at the “Implementing the EU’s Pact for the Mediterranean in the Levant with Local Actors” seminar in Amman, Jordan, organized by Anera and the Swedish Dialogue Institute.

The seminar brought together civil society, educational institutions, NGOs, and development actors to discuss sustainable development, skills development, employment, and public-private partnerships. Key points included the need for collaboration between governments, employers, educational institutions, and NGOs to achieve sustainable economic growth, and aligning education with labor market needs.

Emphasis was placed on comprehensive training pathways, including apprenticeships and entrepreneurship support, particularly for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) as job creators. The Issam Hachwi Bakery School serves as a model through its partnerships with bakeries, hotels, and NGOs, providing students with skills and job opportunities.

Challenges discussed included economic instability and limited funding, with recommendations for flexible and long-term partnership models. The seminar underscored the role of vocational education as a bridge to employment, highlighting the need for diverse partnerships and entrepreneurship.

Participation also expanded our professional network, connecting us with key regional and international stakeholders, offering future collaboration opportunities to support vocational education and sustainable development in Lebanon.
