A new milestone for Bakery School Philippines happened last March 17 & 18, 2022 as the school welcomed their students on their first-ever presential class after months of delay due to the COVID-19 restrictions in the Philippines.

The students who have been patiently waiting for presential classes to start have been attending online classes as well as life-skills seminars provided by our partner foundation, the Consuelo “Chito” Madrigal Foundation, since it opened, and it was evident on their faces how excited they were to start a brand-new phase in their training.

Following the pre-cautionary COVID-19 and food safety & sanitation measures, everyone wore face masks and hairnets. Moreover, the students were grouped in three’s to not overcrowd the kitchen stations. The day officially started by observing a demonstration of the fundamentals of bread baking. They all got to experience scaling ingredients and kneading and shaping the dough. In hindsight, they were all able to execute well and efficiently.

Although it was their first day, the students had a good grasp of the activity and were able to produce good quality breads. We are confident they will get even better with frequent practice and more regular sessions.  The students proudly presented their work and brought their products home to share with their families. Their smiles showed how grateful they were to have gained new learnings from this first hands-on experience. They went home even more inspired knowing that this is just one of the many firsts in their baking journey at the Bakery School Philippines.
